JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 22, 2011) - The ETSU softball team dropped both games of an Atlantic Sun doubleheader on Friday evening, as Campbell swept the Bucs 7-1 & 7-4 at Betty Basler Field.

Campbell's Christina Melton belted a three-run homer in the second and Katie Woodcock went the distance to earn her 11th win of the season, as the Camels dropped the Bucs 7-1 in game one. Despite holding a two-run lead through the first four innings of game two, the Blue and Gold saw Campbell score six runs in the last three innings, and the Camels capped off the sweep with a 7-4 come-from-behind victory.

Following the sweep, ETSU saw its record drop to 15-31, 3-15 A-Sun, while the Camels snapped their three-game skid to improve to 29-22, 11-7.

Game One Recap

Christina Melton put the Camels on the board with a three-run homer in the second and Katie Woodcock limited the Bucs to one run on three hits, as Campbell cruised to a 7-1 victory in the opener.

Melton improved her record to 11-2 on the year, while senior righty Jessica Duncan (Ooltewah, Tenn.) suffered the loss (8-13) after being charged for four runs on four hits in two innings of work.

The Camels registered four runs via the long-ball and tacked on three more runs without recording a hit in the third and fifth innings to capture the six-run victory. Unfortunately, the Bucs - who left seven runners on base - scored their lone run on Katie Henderson's (Jackson, Tenn.) two-out double in the fifth.

After both teams left runners stranded in scoring position in the first inning, Campbell made up for the lost chance when Melton posted her one-out, three-run homer in the second to give the Camels an early 3-0 lead.

Once again the Camels used the long-ball to add to their lead in the third when Amanda Miller led off the inning with a solo shot, forcing head coach Brad Irwin to make a pitching change. Junior right-hander Shelby Morris (Mt. Juliet, Tenn.) entered for Duncan, and Campbell pushed another run across the dish on Raven Lee's fielder's choice RBI. However, the Buccaneer defense stepped up as Morris forced Taylor McGee to line into a double play with runners on the corners.

With Woodcock wreaking havoc on the Buccaneer hitters - as the hurler held ETSU to only two hits in the first four innings - the Camels pushed two more runs across the dish in the fifth to make it a 7-0 contest. Campbell scored its sixth run on a wild pitch by Morris, while Lauren Stephan's sac-fly RBI to left gave the visitors from North Carolina a seven-run advantage.

From there, Henderson's double in the bottom half of the inning was the lone highlight for the Blue and Gold, but Woodcock retired seven of the final eight hitters she faced to earn the win.

Henderson also singled in the first to finish 2-for-4 with an RBI, marking her team-leading 15th multi-hit game of the season. Sophomore Sam Lower (Sebring, Fla.) extended her hitting streak to four straight games after going 1-for-4 with a run scored.

Game Two Recap

Sam Lower went 3-for-4 with a run scored, while Katie Henderson and Tara Hartnett (Snellville, Ga.) each recorded an RBI; however, it wasn't enough offense to lift the Bucs to victory as Campbell scored six runs in the final three innings to pick up a 7-4 win.

Lower continued to impress in the leadoff spot for the Bucs as she extended her hitting streak to five straight games since moving into the role, and is now 9-for-18 with six RBI and seven runs scored during this stretch.

Campbell left runners on second and third in the first and the Bucs responded by plating two runs in the bottom half of the inning to take the 2-0 lead. Lower led off the frame with a double to center and scored on Hartnett's single to right. Hartnett was then able to score on the play after Lauren Stephan's throw back to the infield rolled all the way across the diamond - and by the time a Camel player could get the ball - the Snellville, Ga. native was cruising all the way to third. However, third baseman Keeli Michael thought she could gun down Hartnett, but her throw went into the outfield, giving the Buccaneer left fielder the chance to score.

The Camels pulled to within a run when Stephan blasted a solo homer in the third, but the Bucs got the run back in the bottom of the inning when Henderson's RBI double scored Arielle Garner (Buchanan, Ga.) - making it a 3-1 contest.

However, that was the last run ETSU would score until Whitley Hensley's (Erwin, Tenn.) solo homer in the seventh made it 7-4.

Campbell tied the game at three in the top of the fifth on Raven Lee's two-run home run, while a pair of RBI singles in the sixth gave the Camels their first lead of the game at 5-3.

Taylor McGee's two-run round-tripper in the seventh capped off the scoring and Katie Woodcock tossed the final two innings to earn her conference-leading eighth save of the year. Christina Melton earned the win (5-5) after issuing three runs (two earned) in five innings, and freshman righty Katie Wolff (LaGrange, Texas) surrendered the loss (1-9). Wolff was tagged for five runs on nine hits in 5.1 innings.

The Bucs will now have a two-week layoff before playing their season finale against USC Upstate on Friday, May 6. First pitch of the conference doubleheader is set for 4 p.m. at Betty Basler Field.
