ETSU Baseball sweeps Manhattan in doubleheader 7-1

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 30, 2011) - The ETSU baseball team downed Manhattan College 7-1 in the second game of the doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Cardinal Park as the Bucs pounded out four home runs in the contest.
 
The Buccaneers (26-15, 12-10 A-Sun) outhit the Jaspers (23-14, 14-0 MAAC) 12-7 in the game led by Matthew Scruggs (Knoxville, Tenn.) who was 2-for-3 with a double, home run and scored a run. Bo Reeder (Cookeville, Tenn.) and Dylan Pratt (Johnson City, Tenn.) also had multiple hits for the Bucs.
 
Sophomore Derek Bushey (Richmond, Va.) posted his fourth straight quality start limiting Manhattan to one run on five hits with two strikeouts and five walks to go to 4-3 on the year.
 
Eric Luksis suffered the loss for the Jaspers giving up three runs on seven hits with two strikeouts and five walks.
 
Mark Onorati led off the contest with a triple to deep center. In the next at-bat, Nick Camastro singled in Onorati to give the Jaspers a 1-0 lead.
 
After a Derek Niesman (Wellington, Fla.) single to lead off the bottom of the third, Reeder doubled down the left field line to score Niesman to even the contest at 1-all.
 
The Bucs jumped out in front 2-1 in the fifth on Pratt's second home run of the afternoon as he crushed a solo homer to left. Later in the inning, Kerry Doane (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) sent his fourth home run of the season over the scoreboard in left to increase the ETSU advantage to 3-1.
 
In the bottom of the sixth, Paul Hoilman (Johnson City, Tenn.) plated Reeder on a double down the left field line to make the score 4-1.
 
ETSU put the game out of reach in the bottom of the eighth as the Bucs scored three runs on two hits to take a 7-1 lead. Scruggs led off the inning with a towering solo homer to left. With two outs and a runner on first, catcher Derek Trent (Kingsport, Tenn.) deposited the second homer of the inning to right for his tenth home run of the season.
 
Junior Dak Rissman (West Palm Beach, Fla.) was great in relief for ETSU throwing 2.0 scoreless innings of relief with two strikeouts to pick up his second save of the season.
