Muehl starts off NCAA Regional in tough fashion
Friday, May 06, 2011
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (May 5, 2011) â€" One year ago, ETSU senior Nina Muehl (Vienna, Austria) was the talk of the NCAA regionals, posting an eye-popping first round score of 8-under-par 64 in the 2010 championships. Unfortunately for Muehl, this season’s opening round at the NCAAs did not go as well.
Muehl, who earned an at-large individual berth to the NCAA Central Regional hosted by Notre Dame at the Warren Golf Course, finished tied for 79th on the leaderboard after carding a first round score of 8-over-par 80 on Thursday afternoon. The round included a double bogey, seven bogeys and a birdie.
The Bucs’ senior leader said she is determined to turn things around during Friday’s second round.
“It was a challenge out there today with the wind and some tricky pin positions,” Muehl said. “I had a good practice with (Coach Stefanie Shelton) after the round and I am motivated for tomorrow. I want to go out there, trust my shots, and be confident in my game.”
Muehl posted a 3-over 39 on the front nine, and followed that with a 5-over 41 on the back. Thursday’s opening round was postponed by a frost delay and did not finish until late in the evening.
