RALEIGH, N.C. (May 6, 2011) - After a shaky first inning, junior starter John Long (Anderson, S.C.) settled in to shut down the North Carolina State offense as the ETSU baseball team won its seventh straight game defeating the Wolfpack 5-1 Friday night at Doak Field in Raleigh, N.C.

The win improved the Bucs to 29-15 overall as head coach Tony Skole earned his 300th win in his tenure at ETSU.

Long allowed just one run on four hits in a complete game effort to pick up his fifth win of the year for the Buccaneers (29-15, 12-10 A-Sun) striking out five with one walk. The Anderson, S.C. native went on to retire 25 of the last 28 batters allowing just one hit after the first inning.

Rob Chamra was tabbed with the loss for N.C. State (26-19, 11-13 ACC) after surrendering five runs on nine hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

The Bucs outhit the Wolfpack 11-4 on the evening led by third baseman Bo Reeder (Cookeville, Tenn.) who was 3-for-5 and scored a run.

Senior Paul Hoilman (Johnson City, Tenn.) broke the Atlantic Sun career doubles record in the fifth as he doubled to left to put two runners in scoring position. In the next at-bat, catcher Derek Trent (Kingsport, Tenn.) put the Bucs in front 4-1 as he crushed a homer over the wall in right center for his 11th home run of the season.

The Wolfpack grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a RBI single by Harold Riggins.

ETSU saw both Trent and Dylan Pratt (Johnson City, Tenn.) reach on singles to lead off the top of the second inning. After a sacrifice bunt by shortstop Kerry Doane (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.), Matthew Scruggs (Knoxville, Tenn.) brought home Trent home on a ball hit to short to even the contest at 1-all.

Andrew Green (Powell, Tenn.) increased the ETSU advantage to 5-1 in the top of the sixth as he laid down a bunt single to score Scruggs from third.

Long recorded his fifth 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the ninth as he got Dylan Brown to pop out to end the contest.

The Bucs return to action tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. as they face the Wolfpack in game two of the series at Doak Field. For more information on Buccaneer baseball, visit ETSUBucs.com or follow the Bucs on Twitter at http://twitter.com/ETSUAthletics.
