Bushey earns Southeast Pitcher of the Week honors from College Baseball Insider

Thursday, May 12, 2011

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (May 11, 2011) - After earning Atlantic Sun Pitcher of the Week honors earlier this week, Sophomore Derek Bushey (Richmond, Va.) was named the Southeast Pitcher of the Week, announced College Baseball Insider on Wednesday.

Bushey earned the honor after throwing a complete game two-hit shutout against North Carolina State on May 6. Bushey was exceptional in the outing as he faced just four batters over the minimum in the contest. The sophomore also had six strikeouts and allowed just one N.C. State runner to reach second base in the game.

The shutout was the first of Bushey's career as the Richmond, Va. native has posted a complete game effort in three of his last five outings. On the year, Bushey has a 5-3 record with a 3.10 ERA and 57 strikeouts. The right-hander is limiting opponents to a .244 batting average.
