DELAND, Fla. (Mar. 7, 2011) - The ETSU men's tennis team concluded its three-match Florida swing with a 7-0 sweep over Georgetown, Monday afternoon at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center on the campus of Stetson University.
"Today was a good day and we played pretty solid," said ETSU Assistant Coach Ricky Rojas. "We are looking forward to this weekend's conference matches."
The Bucs started quickly out of the gates, winning all three doubles matches to take the early 1-0 lead. The ETSU duo of Sander Gille (Kuringen, Belgium) and Juan Ramirez (Asuncion, Paraguay) rolled to an 8-2 win over Michael Clarke and Andrew Bruhn. The Bucs clinched the doubles point when Grega Teraz (Mojstrana, Slovenia) and Charles Bottoni (Bois Guillaume, France) knocked off Bryan Miller and Charlie Caris, 8-3. To close out doubles play, Robin Akser (Ornskoldsvik, Sweden) and Jorge Varon (Valencia, Venezuela) defeated Brian Ward and Casey Distaso, 8-6.

Freshman Roger Ordeig (Gurb, Spain) had the quickest match of the day as he rolled past Rafael Notario, 6-0, 6-1. Juan Ramirez (Asuncion, Paraguay), usually in the No. 5 spot in the lineup, played at the No. 3 position and defeated Bruhn, 6-4, 6-2. Jeremy Bonnevalle (Keerbergen, Belgium) also won in straight sets as he knocked off Ward, 6-3, 6-4, at the No. 5 position.
Teraz, playing at the No. 1 position, earned a hard fought win over Clarke, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1. At the No. 2 position, Gille defeated Caris, 6-3, 6-7, 10-4. Finally, at the No. 6 spot, Akser also earned a tough three set win over Distaso, 6-2, 1-6, 6-1.
With the victory, the Bucs move to 5-4 (2-1 A-Sun) on the season, which includes wins in five of their last six matches. Georgetown falls to 1-7 overall on the year.
After four straight matches on the road, the Bucs finally return home this Friday and Saturday for A-Sun matches against Belmont and Lipscomb. The Bucs face Belmont on Friday at 12:00 p.m. and Lipscomb on Saturday at 1 p.m.
