ETSU men receive honor for first time; women post highest GPA in program history
NEW ORLEANS (Aug. 11, 2011) – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its men’s and women’s Division I All-Academic Track and Field teams, and both the Bucs and Lady Bucs were recognized for their hard work on the track and in the classroom. This marks the first time where both teams received the honor in the same year, while the women’s team posted their highest GPA in program history.
The Bucs, who were one of 90 institutions to earn the distinction, recorded a cumulative team GPA of 3.07; while the Lady Bucs posted a team GPA of 3.27 and were one of 164 programs to receive the honor. Overall, ETSU was one of 81 programs to have both its men’s and women’s teams named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic List.
“I am very pleased at how well both our men’s and women’s teams were able to do in the classroom this year,” said Head ETSU Track & Field Coach David E. Walker. “This is a great accomplishment for our student-athletes, and this award is proof of the culture and excellence we are working on instilling into our team. I would like to publically thank Bob Baker and his academic staff for all of their help and hard work with our athletes. It is very gratifying to see both programs win the award.”
ETSU and Lipscomb were the two Atlantic Sun institutions represented on the prestigious list.
To be nominated as USTFCCCA All-Academic, the team must carry a minimum 3.00-cumulative GPA.
