This Week in ETSU Athletics: August 29 – September 4

This week: The Bucs travel to Murfreesboro, Tenn. for the Blue Raider Bash hosted by MTSU. ETSU will open the tournament against MTSU (0-2) on Friday at 8:30 p.m. On Saturday, the Bucs face Missouri (4-0) at 1 p.m. and Austin Peay (1-2) at 5:30 p.m. ETSU will conclude the tournament on Sunday against FIU (2-1) at 11 a.m.

Last week: ETSU finished 3-1 at the season opening UNCG Invitational. The Bucs opened the tournament by falling to Evansville 3-1, but bounced back to win their next three matches with wins over UNC Greensboro, North Carolina A&T and Coastal Carolina. In addition, junior Megan Devine (Kingsport, Tenn.) was named to the All-Tournament Team and was later named A-Sun Player of the Week.

Men’s Soccer

This week: ETSU travels to UNC Greensboro (1-0) on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. Following the trip to Greensboro, the Bucs will travel to Huntington, W. Va. for a match with Marshall (0-1) on Sunday at 7 p.m.

Last week: The Bucs opened the 2011 regular season with a convincing 3-0 victory over Presbyterian at home on Saturday. Senior Aaron Schoenfeld (Knoxville, Tenn.) was named A-Sun Player of the Week after scoring a goal and dishing out an assist in the win over PC.

Women’s Soccer

This week: ETSU returns home for a pair of matches this weekend. The Bucs open the weekend with a match against Longwood (1-1-2) on Friday at 4 p.m. inside Summers-Taylor Stadium before taking on Alabama A&M (0-3) on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Last week: The Bucs opened the weekend by getting narrowly defeated by Tennessee Tech on Friday night, 2-1. However, ETSU earned its first victory of 2011 by defeating reigning Big South regular season co-champion Radford, 1-0, on the road. Freshman Jenna Caudle (Middletown, Md.) scored both of ETSU’s goals on the weekend.

Promotions: College Colors Day - Fans who wear ETSU apparel on Friday will receive $1 admission.

Cross Country

This week: The Buccaneer men’s and women’s cross country teams will get their 2011 season underway at the Covered Bridge Open in Boone, N.C. on Friday. The meet, hosted by Appalachian State, will take place at 5 p.m.

Last week: The ETSU cross country teams were hard at work preparing for the 2011 season.
