JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (October 8, 2011) – Megan Devine (Kingsport, Tenn.) recorded a match-high 22 kills and McKayla Barber (Columbus, Ind.) added 17 kills without an error to lead ETSU past North Florida, 3-1 (25-23, 16-25, 25-14, 30-28), Saturday afternoon inside Brooks Gym.

ETSU moves to 8-11 overall and 2-3 in the A-Sun, while North Florida falls to 8-12 and 2-4 in A-Sun play. The Bucs out-hit the Ospreys .307 to .226 for the match while also recording 52 assists to just 40 for UNF.

Devine tied her career and season-high with the 22 kills on the afternoon, while also adding seven digs. It was her third match of the season with 22 kills as she also had a 22 kill performance last season.

Meanwhile, Barber had an incredibly effective day by recording her 17 kills on just 21 attempts for a remarkable .810 hitting percentage. Barber also added three blocks in the winning effort. The .810 attack percentage on the afternoon was easily a team-best this season.

Kayla Williams (El Paso, Texas) dished out 31 assists from her setter position, while also adding three digs, two blocks and a kill. Freshman Katie Muey (Alexandria, Ind.) had a team-high 12 digs to led three ETSU players with double-digit digs. Kiley Tamblyn (Torrance, Calif.) and Ivey Rice (Johnson City, Tenn.) each had 10 digs for the Bucs.

The Bucs looked to be in control during the opening set as they held an advantage until UNF reeled off five straight points to tie the score at 18. ETSU quickly went on a 3-0 run to take a 22-19 lead. After the two teams traded the next few points, Devine delivered a clutch kill to clinch the set for the Bucs 25-23. Devine led the way for the Bucs with 10 kills in the frame, while ETSU hit an impressive .419 as a team.

The second set was back and forth for the first part of the frame, but with the score tied at five, Paige Pridgeon connected on a kill to put UNF in front 6-5. From there, UNF never looked back as the Ospreys never relinquished the lead in the set as they took the 25-16 victory to even the match up at a set apiece.

Following the 10 minute break, ETSU stormed out of the gates by reeling off five straight points to begin the third set, forcing a quick UNF timeout. Much like UNF did in the second set, ETSU did in the third set as the Bucs never looked back after taking the lead and cruised to a 25-14 victory. ETSU hit .393 in the set and limited UNF to just a .040 hitting percentage.

The Ospreys looked as if they were going to force a fifth set by taking a lead nearly halfway through the fourth set. UNF had a five point lead at 22-17 until the Bucs went on a timely 3-0 run to cut the lead to 22-20. After the two teams traded points, an ETSU service error gave the Ospreys set point at 24-21. The Bucs once again put together a 3-0 run to tie the match at 24 and force some extra volleyball. The two teams went back and forth several times until the Bucs finally put UNF away with back to back kills by Rice and Bethany Gesell (High Point, N.C.) to take the set in thrilling fashion 30-28, while also clinching the match.

ETSU remains at home with a non-conference matchup with Wofford on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. inside Brooks Gym.
