JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (October 13, 2011) – Riding a two-match winning streak, the ETSU volleyball team looks to keep the streak alive this weekend with Atlantic Sun contests against Stetson and Florida Gulf Coast.

The Bucs open the weekend against Stetson on Friday at 6 p.m. inside the Edmonds Center before closing out the trip on Saturday against Florida Gulf Coast at 7 p.m. at Alico Arena.

ETSU is coming off a thrilling five-set victory against Wofford at home on Tuesday night, its second straight win after defeating North Florida on Saturday.

In the victory against Wofford on Tuesday night, ETSU senior Kiley Tamblyn (Torrance, Calif.) recorded a career-high 31 digs – the most digs by an ETSU student-athlete since November 11, 2008 when Jen Niece recorded 35 digs. The Bucs used a balanced effort to down the Terriers as five players recorded double-digit kills, led by Megan Devine’s (Kingsport, Tenn.) 16 kills.

Devine continues to lead the Bucs in kills at 4.15 per set, which ranks her second in the Atlantic Sun. In addition, her 4.52 points per set also rank second in the league. Senior Jamie Stancliff (Advance, N.C.) remains the league leader in blocks at 1.21 per set. Stancliff needs just 47 more blocks to place 10th on the Atlantic Sun career blocks list. As a team, ETSU continues to lead the league in blocks at 2.20 per set.

ETSU is a perfect 10-0 all-time against Stetson, including a 3-1 victory against the Hatters at home last season. Meanwhile, the Bucs are just 2-4 all-time against Florida Gulf Coast. ETSU defeated FGCU 3-0 in Johnson City last year.

For fans unable to attend the contests in Florida, live stats will be available for both matches. In addition, the match against Florida Gulf Coast will be shown on ASun.TV.

Scouting the Opponents

Stetson enters Friday’s match with a 5-12 overall record on the season, including an 0-5 mark in A-Sun play. The Hatters are coming off a victory against Savannah State on Tuesday. Stetson dropped a pair of A-Sun contests over the weekend against Mercer and Kennesaw State.  Stetson is led on the offensive end by Kaley Melville with 3.15 kills per set, while also ranking third on the squad with 2.34 digs per set. Monique Russell tops the Hatters in digs at 3.78 per set. Stetson has been strong behind the service line, ranking third in the Atlantic Sun in service aces at 1.57 per set.

Florida Gulf Coast heads into the weekend with a 10-8 overall record on the season, including a 4-1 mark in A-Sun play. The Eagles most recently defeated South Florida in a non-conference match and split A-Sun matches against Mercer and Kennesaw State. FGCU defeated Mercer in five-sets on Friday before falling to Kennesaw State in three-sets on Saturday. Like Stetson, Florida Gulf Coast is a strong serving team. The Eagles rank second in the league in service aces with 1.72 per set.
