Men’s golf set for U.S. Collegiate Championship

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (October 22, 2011) – The ETSU men's golf team travels to Alpharetta, Ga., to play in the United State Collegiate Championship, beginning on Sunday.

Teams will play 18-holes each day, with the tournament concluding on Tuesday. The Golf Club of Georgia - Lakeside Course will play as a 7,017-yard, par 72 layout for the tournament. The course was designed by Arthur Hills in 1990 and is fashioned around Lake Windward.

The 2011 U.S. Collegiate Championship field features 12 teams listed in the top 50 of the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings, including six teams inside the top 15. ETSU is joined in the field by No. 4 Auburn, No. 6 Georgia Tech, No. 8 Florida State, No. 10 Washington, No. 11 Virginia, No. 14 Kent State, No. 16 Clemson, No. 25 Duke, No. 27 UCLA, No. 29 Iowa, No. 36 Texas A&M, No. 41 Wake Forest and No. 54 USC.

ETSU is coming off a ninth place finish as hosts of the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at Blackthorn Club. Rhys Enoch (Cornwall, England) and Rhys Pugh (Pontypridd, Wales) led the Bucs with top-20 finishes. Enoch has finished inside the top-20 in each event so far this season.

ETSU opens play on Sunday at 9:00 a.m. on No. 1 at the Golf Club of Georgia - Lakeside Course. The Bucs are paired with Wake Forest and individuals from Georgia Tech for the first round.

Host Georgia Tech won the 2010 U.S. Collegiate Championship, while ETSU finished in 13th place.
