GREENVILLE, S.C.  (Oct. 30, 2011) Despite placing two players in the top five individually, the ETSU women’s golf team was unable to hold the team lead for a third straight day and ultimately finished in second place following third and final round action in the Lady Paladin Invitational Sunday at the Furman University Golf Course.

South Florida edged the Buccaneers by just one stroke, but ETSU did finish ahead of teams such as No. 44 Augusta State and third place Georgia State. The Bucs were led by sophomore Sian Evans (Gillingham, England) and senior Mayte Vizcarrondo (Cadiz, Spain), both of whom finished tied for fifth individually.

Georgia State’s Charlotte Lorentzen enjoyed a five-stroke edge to capture the individual title, with Evans and Vizcarrondo both eight strokes back.

“Beating Georgia State and Augusta State were two of our goals entering this event,” said ETSU head coach Stefanie Shelton. “USF played a wonderful round of golf today. I am proud of the girls for leading for three days in these conditions on this difficult course.”

Along with Evans and Vizcarrondo, ETSU freshman Gabrielle Wahl (Heidenheim, Germany) and junior Chloe Garner (Somerset West, South Africa) both posted solid efforts, finishing tied for 24th and 26th, respectively.

With the end of this event, the Bucs wrap up the fall portion of their 2011-12 schedule. In all, the team did not finish lower than sixth in any event during September and October, while posting two second place showings and a third place effort.
