Jaime advances to Flight A final as Brumit advances in Flight D

BLACKSBURG, Va. (Nov. 5, 2011) – Winning two singles matches apiece on Saturday, senior Paula Jaime (Madrid, Spain) and freshman Jessica Brumit (Elizabethton, Tenn.) advanced to compete in the Flight A and Flight D finals of the Hokie Fall Invite inside Virginia Tech’s Burrows-Burleson Athletics Center.

“I am very pleased with our entire team performance today,” said ETSU assistant coach Travis Sandlant. “This was one of the first times this year in which everybody performed well and put themselves in winning situations.

“To have four in the semis and two make it to the finals shows the amount of success we’ve had this weekend. We can’t be satisfied with where we are right now and we need to finish the job tomorrow.”

Jaime ran past UMBC’s Shalini Sahoo 6-2, 6-2 in the quarters before taking out William and Mary’s Katie Kargl in an up-and-down three-setter, 6-4, 0-6, 6-0.

Brumit’s day consisted of two straight-set victories, as the freshman defeated Emily Lauten of Virginia Tech 7-5, 6-3 and eliminated Radford’s Meg Napotalino (Radford) in the semifinals 6-3, 6-2.

Senior Karina Kedzo (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela) and sophomore Giulia Andreazza (Balneario, Camboriu) also picked up quarterfinal victories for ETSU, but were eliminated in their respective semis.

The tournament’s final day, and ETSU’s final day of the fall season, begins Sunday at 10 a.m., highlighted by Jaime’s Flight A and Brumit’s Flight D final at 11 a.m.
