Monday, November 21, 2011

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Nov. 21, 2011) – The best of ETSU’s historic tennis program  reunited for the first time in over a decade on Saturday afternoon during the men’s basketball game inside the MSHA Athletic Center.

Current ETSU Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and former ETSU head coach Dave Mullins, current head coach and director of tennis Yaser Zaatini and assistant coaches Ricky Rojas and Travis Sandlant were joined on the court by former greats Gustavo Gomez, Ricky Hernandez, Diego Iglesias, Enrique Olivares, Marcos Pablovich, Oscar Posada, Kenneth Roft, Armen Safarian, Moises Serrano, Larry Stamm and Juan Yanuzzi.

Among the many accomplishments the fifteen men acheived in ETSU’s prestigious tennis history, Zaatini and Olivares share the highest honor of being named All-Americans during their collegiate careers. Zaatini became ETSU’s first All-American in 1992 and earned the honor again in ’93. In each season, Zaatini was the Southern Conference’s No. 1 singles champion, doubles champion, Player of the Year and Tournament MVP. Olivares was named to the All-American list for the 2007-08 season, when he was also named Atlantic Sun Player of the Year, Tournament MVP and Student-Athlete of the Year.
