JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Mar. 26, 2012) – Just two days after clinching its first conference series win of the season, the ETSU baseball team returns home for a non-conference matchup against Radford on Tuesday at Thomas Stadium.

First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. with live audio and live stats available for fans unable to attend Tuesday’s game.

Freshman right-hander Jimmy Nesselt (Plantation, Fla.) (1-2, 3.42 ERA), who picked up his first career win last Tuesday against UNC Asheville, will take the mound for the Bucs. Nesselt has tossed 21 innings and has given up 10 hits, eight runs and four walks, while striking out 11. He leads the Atlantic Sun in opponent’s batting average as he is only allowing the opposition to hit .149 against him.

Nesselt will be opposed by Radford right-hander Jake Palese (3-0, 3.54 ERA). Palese has tossed 28 innings with 30 hits, 14 runs, 11 earned runs and six walks given up so far this season.

Sophomore Clinton Freeman (Jonesborough, Tenn.) continues to lead the Bucs at the plate with a .384 batting average to go along with three home runs and 19 RBI. Meanwhile, Matthew Scruggs (Knoxville, Tenn.) is batting .294 with a league-leading 10 home runs. Scruggs also leads the squad with 20 RBI and a .694 slugging percentage. Derek Niesman (Wellington, Fla.) and Dylan Pratt (Johnson City, Tenn.) continue to swing hot bats as well with both batting at a .300 clip or better.

The Bucs are coming off a series win at Florida Gulf Coast over the weekend. ETSU got stellar pitching performances by its starters all weekend long with the pitching staff only allowing four earned runs in 28 innings. After dropping game one, the Bucs battled back to win the next two games of the series.

Radford currently sits at 14-10 after most recently sweeping a weekend conference series over UNC Asheville. The Highlanders head into the contest with a six-game winning streak dating back to March 17.

Radford is led at the plate by Matt Hillsinger as he leads the squad in batting average (.374), home runs (five), slugging percentage (.582) and on-base percentage (.460). Meanwhile, Jeff Kemp is hitting .333 and leads the team in doubles (11), triples (five) and RBI (29).

ETSU leads the all-time series against Radford, 19-14. The Bucs and Highlanders have split the last eight meetings, including a two-game split in Johnson City last season.
