SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Apr. 8, 2012) – The defending back-to-back champion ETSU men’s golf team will look to make it three straight at the 24th Annual Coca-Cola Invitational when the Bucs tee off on Monday at the Country Club of Spartanburg.

The two-day, 54-hole event will begin on Monday with 36-holes on the par-72, 6,648-yard layout. Tuesday’s final round will consist of 18-holes.

The field will feature 17 teams – Appalachian State, Campbell, Charleston Southern, Davidson, ETSU, Elon, Gardner-Webb, High Point, James Madison, Longwood, Presbyterian, Radford, Richmond, Samford, Stetson, USC Upstate and host Wofford.  Wofford will field two teams in the tournament giving the field 18 teams of five golfers.

ETSU returns as back-to-back champions after taking the top spot in the standings in 2011 with a 289-285-284—858.  Last season, the Bucs came from 11-shots behind to claim the team championship. Richmond opened the tournament with a stellar 13-under score after two rounds. However, the Bucs rallied to compile a team score of 284 (-4) in the final round to take the title. The 284 was the top team score of the final day as the Bucs finished five-shots clear of Richmond in the 15-team event. Charleston Southern’s Jacob Pastor claimed the individual title with a 70-69-71—210.

In 2010, the Bucs led wire-to-wire to claim the Coca-Cola Invitational title. The Buccaneers were led by two dominating performances, as Michael Stewart (Troon, Scotland) won the indiviual championship on the strength of 16 birdies over three rounds and finished at 7-under 209 (72-66-71) for the tournament. Stewart's 6-under-par 66 bested his low single round of the season by three strokes, and the win marked his second collegiate individual title. Meanwhile, Seamus Power (Waterford, Ireland) ended the event one stroke back of Stewart at 6-under 210.
