Dalton Guzman, Joao Victor Ramalho, Henrique Novaes and Jeremy Saad highlight ETSU’s newcomers

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 11, 2012) – ETSU men’s soccer head coach Scott Calabrese announced the signing of the program’s 2012 recruiting class on Wednesday, welcoming Dalton Guzman (Knoxville, Tenn.), Joao Victor Ramalho (Monte Santo, Brazil), Henrique Novaes (Vinhedo, Brazil) and Jeremy Saad (Sydney, Australia) to the Buccaneer program.

“I am excited to announce our 2012 recruiting class,” said Calabrese, who has coached the Bucs to two Atlantic Sun Tournament Championship finals in four years including a 2010 Championship title. “It is always our goal in recruiting to continually sign players that can have an immediate impact on our program, and I feel as though the players we have signed will all add depth and quality to an already talented returning squad.”

“Although the class is relatively small we are happy to welcome back experienced players such as Colin Pugh (Dublin, Ireland) and Matt Reed (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) from medical redshirts as well as Luis Calzadilla (Caracas, Venezuela) after sitting out his year in residency. Dalton Guzman and Jeremy Saad are already attending ETSU this spring, which has only helped make their transition into the college environment more seamless.”

Guzman comes to ETSU from the Hardin Valley Academy where he was named All-State in 2011 and helped the squad to the 2011 Tennessee High School State Championship. The Knoxville native also played club soccer for FC Alliance 94 Black and was a member of the 94 Region III Team.

Ramalho joins the Bucs from Montverde Academy in Montverde, Fla. In 2011, Ramlho was named an ESPN Rise High School All-American after scoring 20 goals and notching 12 assists. The No. 59-ranked recruit in the nation according to ESPN Rise Top 150 of 2012 also helped Montverde Academy to the 2011 ESPN Rise National Championship.

Novaes also arrives at ETSU from Montverde Academy. An integral part of Montverde’s ESPN Rise National Championship, Novaes scored 17 goals and recorded eight assists through the squad’s 2011 season, and this season has helped Montverde to a 23-0-4 record along with the nation’s longest undefeated streak which stands at 52 games.

Saad journeys to Johnson City having transferred from the University of Western Sydney in his hometown of Sydney, Australia. While in Australia, Saad was a member of Wollongong FC before being selected by the New South Wales Institute of Sport (NSWIS). In his time at NSWIS, Saad was selected to travel to Korea to compete against the South Korean national team as well as a host of teams from Europe and Asia.
