Martin lands A-Sun All-Academic Team honors

Tuesday, May 08, 2012

MACON, Ga. (May 8, 2012) – Senior outfielder Annie Martin (Centerville, Tenn.) exemplified the true characteristics of a scholar-athlete during her playing career at ETSU, and on Tuesday afternoon the Atlantic Sun Conference recognized the standout softball player with All-Academic Team honors.

Martin – who recorded her 100th career hit last Saturday against Lipscomb – finished her banner year by leading the Blue and Gold in hits (46), runs scored (24), and triples (3). The speedy outfielder tied for second in the conference in triples and was second on the team with 11 multi-hit games – including four coming in A-Sun play.

Meanwhile, in the classroom, Martin played a vital role in helping the Bucs generate the ninth highest grade-point-average (GPA) among NCAA Division I softball programs in 2011, as the Centerville, Tenn. native received All-America Scholar Athlete honors by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) after posting a GPA of 3.94 in her junior year. In addition, Martin was a four-time A-Sun All-Academic Team member, while being named to the A-Sun Scholar List in 2011.

Martin is majoring in human services (minoring in communicative disorders) and plans to attend graduate school to obtain a degree in speech and language pathology.

The A-Sun introduced the new sport-by-sport Academic All-Conference teams this fall to recognize student-athletes who embody the conference’s mission of Building Winners for Life. All the members of the team boast a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (GPA) or better and participated in at least half of their team’s games.

Martin’s cumulative GPA is 3.505.
