Friday, May 11, 2012
COLUMBUS, Ohio (May 11, 2012) – Improving on her first round score by two strokes, ETSU freshman Gabriella Wahl (Heidenheim, Germany) moved up nine spots on the individual leaderboard and now stands tied for 47th following second round play in the NCAA Central Regional Friday at the Ohio State University Golf Club’s Scarlet Course.
Playing in a field of 126 players that represent some of the best teams in the country, Wahl has spent the last two days posting respectable numbers while battling the quick greens at the Scarlet Course. In fact, with a quality showing in Saturday’s third and final round, Wahl has a chance to advance past the regionals and earn a spot in the NCAA Championships.
“Gabriella’s putting today was so much better than in the first round,” said ETSU head coach Stefanie Shelton. “She improved a lot today and really learned from her first round. If Gaby can come out tomorrow and post a score under par, she still has a good chance to continue on to the nationals.”
The top eight teams in the regional advance, as well as the top two individuals that are not represented as part the top eight teams.
On Friday, Wahl carded a round that included one birdie, four bogeys and an unfortunate double bogey on the par three 13th hole.
