Alberg, O’Dell and Claussnitzer will represent the Bucs in Jacksonville
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (May 23, 2012) – ETSU track and field runners Ifrish Alberg (Paramaribo, Suriname), Tim O’Dell (Palm Coast, Fla.) and Anja Claussnitzer (Chemnitz, Germany) are set to compete in the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field East Regional preliminary rounds beginning on Thursday at North Florida’s Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla.
On the men’s side, Alberg will be competing in the 100m dash while O’Dell will represent the Bucs in the 400m. Claussnitzer will compete in the 800m on the women’s half. All three of the Bucs’ respective preliminary events will take place on Thursday.
Alberg will take his Atlantic Sun-leading 100m dash time of 10.35 into Regional action. The Paramaribo, Suriname native achieved the mark at Penn State’s Bob Pollock Invitational earlier this month, and will compete in the fifth of six heats on Thursday.
O’Dell qualified for the men’s 400m prelims with a time of 47.27, which he posted during his gold medal performance at the A-Sun Outdoor Championships. The ETSU junior will return to his native state looking to build on his conference-leading time with another top mark out of heat four.
Claussnitzer’s women’s 800m time of 2:08.28 earned her spot in the Regional prelims, as she will run out of heat two in Jacksonville. The senior took second place when she posted her mark at the Bob Pollock Invitational, and ranks third in the A-Sun.
All three Buccaneers will be looking to finish among the top three in their respective heats, as those who do will lock up a spot in Friday’s National Quarterfinal. The nine fastest times outside of those 18 will fill up the remainder of the field.
