Kristjansson’s 68 highlights Bucs in second round Mason Rudolph Championship
Saturday, September 22, 2012
FRANKLIN, Tenn. (Sept. 22, 2012) – Freshman Gudmundur Kristjansson (Reykjavik, Iceland) enjoyed quite a turnaround at the Mason Rudolph Championship on Saturday at the Vanderbilt Legends Club.
After shooting a disappointing 9-over-par 80 in Friday’s first round, Kristjansson birdied four holes – including back-to-back birdies on the 467-yard, par-4 12 and the 184-yard, par-3 13 – to finish at 3-under 68. Overall, Kristjansson went from being tied for 79th into a tie for 42nd as the Buccaneer rookie enters Sunday’s final round at 6-over 148.
Unfortunately, as Kristjansson played a solid round, the rest of the team couldn’t get anything going on the 7,100-yard, par-71 course.
ETSU dropped from 12th to 14th on the team leaderboard after carding a 16-over 300 in round two, moving its total score to 596.
Vanderbilt moved past three teams to take the team lead on Saturday, as the host Commodores finished with a 6-under 278 and have a one shot lead over No. 25 Oklahoma. The Commodores are currently 4-under 564 for the tournament.
Meanwhile, Oklahoma’s Abraham Ancer took over the individual lead by shooting a 4-under 67 on Saturday and is 7-under (135) for the tournament. Ancer – who is one of 10 players to have a score under par after the first two rounds – holds a one shot advantage over Georgia State’s Jonathan Grey.
The third and final round gets underway at 8:30 a.m. Eastern, while the Bucs don’t tee off until 9:20.
