Women’s tennis sends four to compete at Hokie Fall Invite

Thursday, September 27, 2012

BLACKSBURG, Va. (Sept. 27, 2012) – The ETSU women’s tennis team heads for its third tournament of the fall season this weekend, as it travels to the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg, Va. to compete at the Hokie Fall Invite on the campus of Virginia Tech.

The three-day tournament begins Friday with first round singles action, as well as first and second round doubles play. Other squads joining ETSU and Virginia Tech in Blacksburg include West Virginia, Radford and Tulane.

Making the trip for ETSU will be senior Antonia Kolovou (Larisa, Greece), and juniors Salma Dahbi (Marrakech, Morocco), Larn McShane (Hobart Tasmania, Australia) and Sofia Espana (Mexico City, Mexico). Kolovou will compete in the singles A flight, with Dahbi in the B flight, McShane in the C flight and Espana in the D flight. In doubles action, Kolovou and McShane head to the A flight, while Dahbi and Espana take on the B flight.

At last year’s Hokie Fall Invite, then-senior Paula Jaime advanced to the A flight final and current sophomore Jessica Brumit (Elizabethton, Tenn.) worked her way to the D flight final. While both were defeated in straight sets in their respective finals by opponents from Tulane, the tournament closed out a successful 2011 fall campaign that saw Jaime go 15-3 in singles play and win the back draw at the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships.

Daily recaps and updated draws will be posted on ETSUBucs.com at the conclusion of each day. Tournament draws for the start of play will be available when released.
