Men’s tennis perfect on opening day of Steve Baras Fall Classic

Friday, September 28, 2012

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (Sept. 28, 2012) –  The ETSU men’s tennis team was flawless on opening day of the Steve Baras Fall Classic, hosted by Chattanooga, going 12-0 in singles play and 3-0 in doubles on Friday at the UTC Tennis Center.

Rogerio Ribeiro (Sao Paulo, Brazil), Jesus Bandres (Caracas, Venezuela), Juan Ramirez (Asuncion, Paraguay), Roger Ordeig (Gurb, Spain), Jorge Varon (Valencia, Venezuela) and Ricardo Pabon (Bogota, Columbia) all rolled through their respective first and second round singles matches, and will all play in their respective flight’s semifinals on Saturday beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Doubles action went just a smoothly, with the duos of Bandres and Ribeiro, Ramirez and Varon, and Ordeig and Pabon all going unscathed on opening day.

Director of ETSU Tennis Yaser Zaatini had one word to describe the Bucs’ fantastic day.

“Pefecto!,” Zaatini said. “In all my years as a coach, I can’t remember being a part of such a day. We struggled with adversity with a lack of confidence and poor tennis at times, but the fact is that we won. I’m extremely happy with the day because I preach how we have to learn to win without playing our best. It was a great day overall.”
