Dahbi wins Flight B back draw, women’s tennis completes Hokie Fall Invite

Sunday, September 30, 2012

BLACKSBURG, Va. (Sept. 30, 2012) – Junior Salma Dahbi (Marrakech, Morocco) came back from a set down to defeat Virginia Tech’s Emily Lauten 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 1-0 (10-8) in the Flight B back draw final, highlighting the ETSU women’s tennis team’s final day of action on Sunday at the 19th annual Hokie Fall Invite.

Dahbi advanced to the back draw final with two wins on Saturday after falling to Armstrong Atlantic’s Olga Kalodzitsa on Friday. Junior Sofia Espana (Mexico City, Mexico) was also in action, competing in the Flight D main draw final, but lost to MTSU’s Irina Constantinide in three sets 6-2, 6-7 (2-7) 6-4.

Other results on Sunday included Antonia Kolovou (Larisa, Greece) earning a consolation win on a withdrawal by VT’s Carol Kahoun, along with Kolovou and Larn McShane (Hobart Tasmania, Australia) defeating William & Mary’s Cepeda and Johnson, 8-6, in a Flight A doubles consolation match.

"Overall, I thought it was a great tournament,” ETSU assistant coach Travis Sandlant said. “Unfortunately, we were not mentally as strong as I would have liked. We need to stay loose in the big moments, which is an area we are going to have to work on. I was pleased with the effort.”

The ETSU women’s tennis team continues fall action next weekend in Winston-Salem, N.C. at the Wake Forest Invitational.
