Ribeiro, Ordeig fall on final day

ATHENS, Ga. (Nov. 11, 2012) – The ETSU men’s tennis team finished up the UGA Bulldog Scramble on Sunday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex, with sophomore Rogerio Ribeiro (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and junior Roger Ordeig (Gurb, Spain) dropping a pair of singles matches and falling in doubles.

Ribeiro went up against UGA’s Nathan Pasha – ranked No. 123 in the ITA – and fell in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. Ordeig battled Mississippi State’s Stefan Vinti for three sets, but was also downed, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.

The two Buccaneers competed together in doubles, but were unsuccessful against Kentucky’s Maks Gold and Ryuji Hirooka, 8-4. Gold and Hirooka went on to win the doubles shootout, and were crowned as the Bulldog Scramble doubles champions.

“We usually have seven or eight guys who can play, but this year we have five or six guys and we’re obviously depleted,” Director of ETSU Tennis Yaser Zaatini said. “This is my fault, as a coach, for not being able to bring in what we needed to bring.

“I think our team chemistry, our effort during matches, and how often we made excuses impeded our progress. If you have five or six guys that can play, and only two or three are actually performing, then you can’t be very productive. Hopefully we can find our way, create some discipline, and bring some pieces in during January that can step in and help out.”

ETSU’s spring season is scheduled to begin Jan. 10 in Tuscaloosa, Ala., competing at the Crimson Tide Indoor Invite.
