Lady Bucs sign guard Shamauria Bridges

Tuesday, November 20, 2012

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Nov. 20, 2012) – East Tennessee State University head women’s basketball coach Karen Kemp announced Tuesday that Shamauria Bridges (Miramar, Fla.) has signed her national letter of intent to play with the Lady Bucs starting in 2013-14.

Bridges, a 5-foot-5 left-handed guard out from Miramar, Fla., carries a winning pedigree as she helped guide Hollywood Christian to the 2010 state championship. Overall, Bridges has helped her teams compile 76 wins over the last three seasons of high school ball.

“We are extremely excited to get a guard of Shamauria’s quickness and athleticism,” said Kemp. “Shamauria definitely lives up to her nickname “Jett” because of her speed, and she will be a great addition to our guard position. She’s a high energy player who can knock down the three and comes from a winning program. She was exactly what we were looking for in the signing period.”

As for Bridges, she said ETSU was the perfect fit for many reasons.

“I chose ETSU because the team made me feel like family on my visit and it had my major in forensic science,” said Bridges. “ETSU felt like the perfect fit and hopefully I can help the Lady Bucs win championships.”

While at Hollywood Christian, Bridges averaged 12.9 points, four assists, three steals, and three rebounds per game en route to being named Second Team All-Broward in 2011-12. Bridges – who was named Second Team All-State after leading the Eagles to a runner-up finish at the state championship as a junior – registered 14.0 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and three steals per game in the state tournament. Meanwhile, in 2010-11, Hollywood Christian finished fourth at the ESPN RISE National Championship and ranked 33rd in the ESPN Fab 50 rankings.

The 2012-13 Lady Bucs return to action on Friday, Nov. 30 when ETSU hosts Memphis at 7 p.m., inside the MSHA Athletic Center.
