Geno named to First Team, Fubara Second, Osorio Third

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (Dec. 11, 2012) – The NSCAA posted its 2012 All-Region teams on Sunday, naming ETSU junior David Geno (Kingsport, Tenn.), junior Itode Fubara (Ogbema, Nigeria), and senior Alesi Osorio as members of the All-South Region squads.

Geno received the highest of all-region honors, being named one of four forwards to the first team. The Dobyns-Bennett High School product broke ETSU’s single-season records in goals, assists and points on the 2012 campaign, scoring 11 times while lending eight assists to amass 30 total points. Those marks were some of the best in the NCAA this year, ranking Geno among the nation’s top 25 in points per game (1.50) and total points, while also finishing top 30 in total goals and total assists.

In his collegiate career, Geno now has 23 goals, 16 assists and 62 points, which are all ETSU’s program records. Geno surpassed all three marks – formerly held by Aaron Schoenfeld, a current member of the Columbus Crew in the MLS – breaking the goals record with a score in the 30th minute of ETSU’s 2-2 draw with then-No. 18 Wake Forest in early October.

Fubara landed second-team honors at the midfield position. The 2010 Atlantic Sun Tournament MVP scored twice while registering three assists to end up with seven points on the year. Although the individual statistics do not necessarily reflect it, Fubara was a critical part of the Buccaneers’ defensive midfield. ETSU posted seven shutouts and held opponents to a goals against average of 0.93 in 20 games, thanks in large part to Fubara’s play at his defensive position. Fubara was named to the A-Sun All-Tournament Team in mid-November for the third time in his career.

Osorio rounded out ETSU’s all-region selections, being named to the third team as one of four midfielders. The Buccaneer senior scored four goals and notched three assists for 11 points on the season, ranking second on the team in all three statistical categories. Osorio had a knack for scoring in clutch moments, finishing off Stetson, 1-0, with a score late in the game to earn ETSU a berth into the 2012 A-Sun Tournament Championship, while also scoring ETSU’s only goal in a 1-1 draw at then-No. 25 Furman. Osorio ends his ETSU career as the Bucs’ all-time leader in games played and started, making 77 appearances and 73 starts.

The all-region honors for all three Buccaneers are the first of their respective collegiate careers.
