Volleyball signs two during early period

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Dec. 20, 2012) – East Tennessee State University head volleyball coach Lindsey Devine and her staff announced Thursday that Briana Allmon (Flower Mound, Texas) and Kristen Favre (Plano, Texas) have signed their national letters of intent to play for the Bucs starting in the fall of 2013.

With senior setter Kayla Williams (El Paso, Texas) set to graduate this spring, the Bucs added depth to their setter position with Favre, while Allmon joins a group of talented outside hitters. Both players come from winning backgrounds and look to continue the theme at the collegiate level.

“I am very excited about both Briana and Kristen joining our program,” said Devine. “Both of these players have a great work ethics and love the game of volleyball.”

Allmon spent her last four years playing for head coach Marci Brinkman at Flower Mound High School, which is right outside Dallas. During her time with the Jaguars, Allmon totaled 1,038 kills, 478 digs, and 168 total blocks, while hitting nearly .400 (.396). Allmon – who played at the varsity level all four years at Flower Mound HS – was named First Team All-District and Team MVP as a junior, along with receiving All-District Honorable Mention honors as a sophomore. Along with the strong numbers put up in high school, Allmon has also enjoyed an outstanding career playing for the Instinct Tigers club team.

“Briana’s competitive attitude and high level experience set her apart from other recruits we were looking at to join our 2013 team,” commented Devine. “She is a six rotation player who will offer ball control and attacking power to our offense. She plays with fire and passion, which is why she will be a great fit for our team.”

“I chose the Bucs because of the connection made between the coaches and players, as well as the strong nursing program ETSU offers,” said Allmon. “I hope to become the best athlete during my playing career at ETSU, while also doing everything I can to make the team reach their fullest potential.”

Favre also hails from the Lone Star State as she has spent her last four years playing for coach Nick Gonzalez at John Paul II High School in Plano. Favre, a four-year letterwinner for the Cardinals, averaged 7.73 assists per set (711 total) as a senior. The Plano, Texas native was named team captain as a junior and senior, while being tabbed Most Valuable Player in 2012. Favre was also a two-time All-District selection and was named Offensive Player of the Year as a junior. Favre spent her time playing club volleyball for the Dallas Summit under head coach Mike Minnis.

“Kristen has an athletic presence on the floor,” said Devine. “With her speed and understanding of running an offense, she has the potential to compete for the setting position. She is a player who has the desire to do whatever it takes to be better every time she steps out on the court.”

“I decided on ETSU due to its competitive volleyball program, but also because of the strong exercise science program,” added Favre. “I want to be able to help the team be as successful as they can both on and off the court.”
