JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 5, 2013) – The ETSU women’s tennis team played its first match at the newly built ETSU Tennis Complex Friday afternoon and put on a display by cruising past Lipscomb, 7-0.

ETSU (10-4, 5-0 A-Sun) rolled through doubles by surrendering just six combined games out of the three sets to the visiting Lady Bisons (7-11, 2-4 A-Sun). The momentum carried on to singles where the Lady Bucs were just too much, winning all six matches in straight sets.

“What’s great about this team is we have plenty of options throughout our lineup,” ETSU assistant coach Travis Sandlant said. “If we need somebody to step up, someone will fill the spot and take care of business and that’s exactly what we did today. That’s the luxury we have this year.

“Obviously, everybody had a win and that’s always great. Antonia and Tessie [Choo] kept their winning streaks going. I don’t think too many players have won as many as Tessie has, which is great to see.”

Freshman Lyn Yee Choo (Kuching, Malaysia) upped her winning streak to 11 consecutive matches, defeating Melissa Kromer, 6-2, 6-2 on court three. Earlier in the day, Choo paired with classmate Anna Gerbasi (Caracas, Venezuela) in doubles to defeat Deahna Welcher and Jenny Borck, 8-2, moving Choo and Gerbasi’s doubles streak to nine straight wins. Choo is now a team-best 26-7 overall in singles, 13-1 dual, and 21-8 overall, 11-2 dual, in doubles alongside Gerbasi.

Senior Antonia Kolovou (Larisa, Greece) won her 20th singles match of the year, cruising by Welcher on court one, 6-2, 6-0. Kolvoou stands at 20-9 overall, 12-1 dual, and has won her last six. Gerbasi clinched the win on court four, 6-2, 6-2, past Borck to also win her sixth straight contest.

Other Lady Bucs victorious on the day included junior Giulia Andreazza (Balneario Camboriu, Brazil) downing Lorena Djuknic, 6-1, 6-0, and junior Salma Dahbi (Marrakech, Morocco) finishing up the day over Alyssa Bellini, 6-3, 6-3. Sophomore Kelsey Williams (Sunbury, Australia) got her first dual action of the season and her first win, 6-4, 6-2, over Shilpa Naruka.

Dahbi and Kolovou paired for an 8-3 victory at doubles No. 2 and Andreazza and Sofia Espana (Mexico City) took the most convincing set at No. 3, 8-1.

The Lady Bucs are back in action Saturday at noon as they battle the A-Sun’s newest member, Northern Kentucky. Senior Day festivities for Kolovou will be held prior to the start of the match.
