Bartow announces signing of guard Devin Harris to NLI

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 22, 2013) – ETSU men’s basketball head coach Murry Bartow announced Monday that the Buccaneers have officially received a national letter of intent from point guard Devin Harris (Tampa, Fla.).
Bartow said the 6-foot-4, 195-pound guard is a player that the Bucs were aiming for throughout the 2012-13 recruiting season. He averaged 15.5 points, six rebounds, five assists, and shot 76 percent from the foul line during his senior year at Jesuit High School, helping lead his team to a Florida Class 5A state championship.
“We targeted Devin early on and watched him throughout the year,” Bartow said. “He’s a lead guard who is a great facilitator and can score the basketball. He’s a great kid from a great high school program, and he’s surrounded by a wonderful family. When you think of student-athlete, he would be it in every sense of the word.”
Harris said he is pleased to be a Buccaneer.
"I selected ETSU because it was the right fit for me on and off the court," Harris said. "I also had a great time on my official visit and had fun with the team. The coaching staff has always been honest with me and have been recruiting me since the beginning and were the first to offer me."
Bartow was quick to point out Harris’ basketball lineage. His brother Ramon played at Kentucky from 2006-10 and Devin played high school basketball under head coach Neal Goldman at highly-successful Jesuit.
Goldman had a plethora of positive things to say about the younger Harris brother.
"I am pretty certain that I have not coached a better overall basketball player than Devin Harris,” Goldman said. “The great players care, the great players strive for perfection, the great players know how to take their level of play to another gear when the game is on the line, and the great players have the ability to draw the best out of their teammates. That great player for us was Devin Harris.”
Harris joins a pair of new Buccaneers already signed to the 2013-14 recruiting class, a group that includes Maurice O’Field (Cleveland, Ohio) and A.J. Merriweather (Jackson). For more on ETSU men’s basketball throughout the offseason, visit ETSUBucs.com and click on the men’s hoops link.
