Chase, Burley earn A-Sun academic accolades

Chase Men’s T&F Scholar Athlete of the Year, Burley Women’s Academic All-Conference
MACON, Ga. (May 20, 2013) – A pair of ETSU track & field student-athletes captured Atlantic Sun Conference academic honors, including Men’s Track & Field Student Athlete of the Year for sophomore Adam Chase (Kingsport, Tenn.) and membership on the Women’s Track & Field Academic All-Conference Team for junior Lexie Burley (Johnson City, Tenn.), the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Chase, a Mathematics major, earned the honor by carrying a 4.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA) in addition to his numerous athletics accomplishments this outdoor season. The sophomore took gold at the 2013 A-Sun Outdoor Championships with a personal best time of 9:09.85 in the 3000m steeplechase, a time that propelled him to First Team All-Conference honors in the event and currently ranks among the top-70 in the NCAA East Region. Moreover, Chase’s accomplishments this spring in the 10,000m and the 5,000m also rank among the top-10 in the league.
Burley, an Exercise Science major, gained unanimous acceptance onto the Women’s Academic All-Conference Team by posting a 3.92 GPA and by being an anchor throughout the outdoor season for the Lady Bucs’ jumps squad. The junior earned silver at the 2013 A-Sun Outdoor Championships in the triple jump and finished the season with Third Team All-Conference honors and ranks in top-60 in the NCAA East Region in the event. Burley also ranks among the top-10 in the league in the long jump.
This award is the first Scholar Athlete honor for Chase, and marks the second consecutive season Burley has gained Academic All-Conference accolades.
