Senior is also closing in on 1,000 career points as a Buccaneer

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 9, 2013) – With the 2013-14 season inching closer, the Buccaneers have garnered their first preseason honor with senior forward Destiny Mitchell (Bluffton, Ga.) earning a spot on the preseason All-Atlantic Sun First Team by College Sports Madness.

Even after battling through injury for much of last season, the Bluffton native was still able to lead ETSU in points per game with 11.5 and rebounds per game with 8.1. Her 11.5 points per game was good for 12th best in the conference and her 8.1 boards per game ranked second in the league in 2012-13. Mitchell also shot an efficient 50 percent from the field last season, good for fourth best in the A-Sun.

The senior continues to leave a mark on the ETSU record books. Mitchell is currently sitting with 978 career points and will likely reach the 1,000-point milestone during the first couple games of the 2013-14 campaign. When the landmark is reached, she will become the 21st women’s basketball Buccaneer to complete this feat. Mitchell also enters the season with 25 career double-doubles, including four last season. The veteran is presently on pace to finish in the top-10 in ETSU women’s basketball scoring and rebounding history.

Mitchell previously earned preseason second team All-Atlantic Sun honors by College Sports Madness prior to the 2012-13 season.
