Knoxville native in running for AT&T MLS Goal of the Week

Vote for the AT&T MLS Goal of the Week

COLUMBUS, Ohio (Oct. 22, 2013) - Just three years ago, Aaron Schoenfeld (Knoxville, Tenn.) helped lead ETSU to a program-record 15 wins and its first ever NCAA Tournament appearance. Saturday, Oct. 19, the former ETSU standout scored the first goal of his professional career, striking an incredible 71st-minute goal in the Columbus Crew's match in Foxborough, Mass.

With Columbus trailing the New England Revolution, 2-1, Schoenfeld unleashed the equalizer, a lethal, left-footed strike that went viral throughout the social media scene shorty after hitting the back of the net.

After gathering a pass from Dominic Oduro just inside the box, Schoenfeld gave the ball a quick touch to his right before burying an unstoppable drive into the top left corner of the goal.

Enterting the match as a second-half substitute, Schoenfeld made the most of his 45 minutes of play, recording a goal and an assist in a narrow 3-2 setback en route to garnering Barbosal Man of the Match honors.

Schoenfeld's goal, one of five goals in contention for the AT&T MLS Goal of the Week, can be seen here.

Fans can vote for the goal until 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24 by following this link.

Over the course of his two-year professional career with Columbus, Schoenfeld has appeared in 18 games, recording one goal, two assists, and 16 shots.

SCHOENFELD AT ETSU

Before being selected 20th overall in the 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft, Schoenfeld enjoyed a successful four-year career at ETSU, helping lead the Bucs to their first Top 25 national ranking, an NCAA Tournament appearance, and a pair of wins over Top 25 opponents.

The Knoxville, Tenn., native was twice named to the All-Atlantic Sun First Team, and earned a spot on the A-Sun All-Tournament Team three times.

Following his senior campaign in 2011, Schoenfeld was named to the NSCAA All-South Region First Team and stood alone as ETSU's all-time leader for career goals (20), assists (10), shots (194), shots on goal (77), and games started (68).

Schoenfeld's streaks of 72 consecutive games played (2008-11) and 62 consecutive games started remain program records.
