KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. (Oct. 28, 2013) – The ETSU women’s golf team wrapped up a highly successful fall campaign on Monday, finishing third on the team leaderboard in the Palmetto Intercollegiate at the Turtle Point Golf Course.

Sophomore Vivienne Chin (Kota Kinabalu, Sabah Malaysia) continued to power the Buccaneers, carding a 1-over-par 73 in the third and final round to finish sixth in the individual competition. Meanwhile, junior Gabrielle Wahl (Heidenheim, Germany) matched Chin’s 73 score and moved up 10 spots to finish tied for 26th.

The Buccaneers, who entered the event ranked No. 53 in the country, end the fall season with four finishes of fifth or better, which included a first-place effort in the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate earlier this month.

“This team has had a tremendous fall season,” said ETSU head coach Stefanie Shelton. “The efforts of Lourdes (Lopez), Sian (Evans), Gabriella and Vivienne have put us back among the top-ranked teams in the nation. We are very proud of our win and our finishes above teams ranked higher than we are currently, so we’re really looking forward to the spring season.”

In fact, the Bucs finished this event ahead of ranked teams such as No. 36 Illinois, No. 42 College of Charleston, and No. 47 GRU Augusta. No. 39 Kansas took home the team title by three strokes over Georgia State.

Individually, Georgia State’s Melissa Siviter bested the field by two strokes at 2-under-par 214 for the event. Chin finished at 2-over-par 218. Other ETSU results included a tie for 33rd by Lopez and a tie for 43rd by Evans.
