Bucs eye second NCAA Tournament appearance in four years

FORT MYERS, Fla. (Nov. 16, 2013) - Making its third Atlantic Sun Championship Final appearance in four years, the ETSU men's soccer team will take on North Florida Sunday, Nov. 17 at 1:00 p.m. with the winner clinching a berth in the NCAA Tournament.

The match will be broadcast on

Both ETSU and UNF came away with wins in Friday's semifinal matches, with the Bucs defeating Lipscomb in the day's opening game and UNF overcoming No. 1 seed Florida Gulf Coast later in the evening.

Freshman William Nordenstrom (Linkoping, Sweden) netted the eventual game-winning goal for the Bucs in the 54th minute, scoring on a rebound following a David Geno (Kingsport, Tenn.) shot attempt. Geno and fellow-senior Jonny Campbell (Johnson City, Tenn.) picked up assists on the play.

The second-seeded Buccaneers (9-5-4, 5-2-1) used its conference-leading defense to shut down Lipscomb's offensive attack, limiting the Bisons to just seven shot attempts and sealing the 1-0 victory. View the box score here.

The decision marked ETSU's 10th clean sheet of the season, setting a new Atlantic Sun record for single-season shutouts.

ETSU will carry a league-best four-match unbeaten streak into Sunday's final. The Bucs are 6-2-2 all time in A-Sun postseason play.

UNF managed to upset regular season Atlantic Sun Champion and tournament host Florida Gulf Coast, 2-1, Friday night. View the box score here.

Goals by Luis Camejo and Pedro Carneiro helped the Ospreys (8-6-3, 2-4-2) overcome a physical FGCU attack that included five yellow cards and three red cards.

The Ospreys are 2-1-0 all time in A-Sun postseason play, with both wins coming this year. The A-Sun Championship Final appearance marks the furthest UNF has ever advanced in the tournament.
