Senior outside hitter named AVCA Honorable Mention All-America

SEATTLE, Wash. (Dec. 18, 2013) – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced its 33rd annual AVCA Division I All-America Teams on Wednesday and ETSU senior outside hitter Megan Devine (Kingsport, Tenn.) landed Honorable Mention honors.

Devine, who was named to the AVCA All-Region Team last week, broke the ETSU and Atlantic Sun Conference all-time kills record this past season, while also being named First Team All A-Sun and A-Sun Tournament Team.

The Kingsport, Tenn. native ranked nationally in kills (14th, 4.49) and points (17th, 4.97) per set, and was second among NCAA Division I active career kill leaders with 1,940. Prior to the season, Devine was named A-Sun Preseason Player of the Year and was one of 30 candidates placed on the Senior CLASS list.

Devine, a 2013 A-Sun All-Academic Team member, helped guide the Blue and Gold to their first regular season conference championship since 2006 as ETSU finished 22-9, 16-2, marking the most conference wins in program history.

In 2013, Devine totaled 22 double-doubles, including 15 in conference-only matches, which tied the A-Sun single-season record set by the Buccaneer standout a year ago. In addition, Devine also totaled double-digit kills in all 30 matches.

The selections were made by the AVCA Division I All-America Committee:  East Region: Mike Johnson, Xavier; East Coast Region: Tonya Johnson, Georgia Tech; Midwest Region, Chris Lamb, Wichita State; North Region: Molly Alvey, Cincinnati; Northeast Region: Sherry Dunbar, Indiana; Pacific North Region: Jennifer Greeny, Washington State; Pacific South Region: Jeff Nelson, New Mexico; South Region: Matt Peck, Middle Tennessee; Southeast Region: Craig Skinner, Kentucky; Southwest Region: Santiago Restrepo, Oklahoma.  The AVCA Awards Chair is Wisconsin Head Volleyball Coach Kelly Sheffield, but because of his responsibilities as a participant in the NCAA Semifinals, Craig Skinner served as acting chair.
