Thursday, February 27, 2014

PARCHAL, Portugal. (Feb. 27, 2014) – Reigning Atlantic Sun Player of the Year Sarah Zadrazil (St. Gilgen, Austria) will join the Austria National Team March 5-12 as they compete in the 21st Algarve Cup in Portugal.

One of 24 players selected to the Austria National Team, Zadrazil will represent her home country in four matches throughout the world-renowned, week-long tournament which will be played at venues across the Algarve region on the southern coast of Portugal.

“We are very proud of Sarah [Zadrazil] for her involvement and continued selection for her National Team,” ETSU head coach Adam Sayers said. “It speaks volumes of not only her ability, but also her attitude and commitment to be the best player she can be in all areas of the game.

“Sarah adopts a very professional approach to everything she does, from playing and training to excelling in the classroom, as well,” Sayers said. “She is very deserving of her selection.”

In just two seasons at ETSU, Zadrazil has quickly established herself as one of the program’s premiere players, ranking second in program history for career assists (21) and ninth for goals (12). En route to being named A-Sun Player of the Year, the St. Gilgen, Austria, native dished out 11 assists in 16 games, ranking sixth in the nation for assists per game (0.69).

Zadrazil is no stranger to competing at the international level. The ETSU standout has already accumulated a wealth of international experience, including playing for the Austria U17, U19, and Senior teams, including serving as team captain of the U19 squad. During the fall of 2013, Zadrazil competed with the National Team in the World Cup Qualifiers.

“It is a great honor for her to represent her country,” Sayers said. “And we know when she travels abroad she also represents ETSU in the best way possible.”

Zadrazil and the Austria National Team will begin Algarve Cup play March 5 as they take on Portugal. The squad will then face off against North Korea March 7, and Russia March 10 before playing their placement match March 12.
