Bucs best reigning SoCon champion Charleston, 4-1

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 3, 2014) - The ETSU women's team will head into conference play with plenty of momentum after upsetting 62nd-ranked and reigning SoCon champion College of Charleston in Mount Pleasant, S.C., Monday.

Three players picked up straight-set singles victories for the Buccaneers (4-7), with Lyn Yee Choo (Kuching, Malaysia), Salma Dahbi (Marrakech, Morocco), and Jessica Brumit (Elizabethton, Tenn.) winning at No. 1, No. 5, and No. 6 singles, respectively.

"I'm very proud that we put forth a team effort today and showed we wanted the victory," ETSU head coach Travis Sandlant said. "Charleston is ranked for a reason. They have a great coaching staff and deep team."

ETSU began the day by taking the doubles point, winning at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.

Choo paired with Anna Gerbasi (Caracas, Venezuela) to beat Charleston's Jenny Falcone and Katherine Schofield, 8-6, at No. 1 doubles, while Brumit and Giulia Andreazza (Balneario Camboriu, Brazil) knocked off Jamie Harrell and Samantha Maddox at No. 3 doubles.

"It's great confidence for us to have a win against a quality team," Sandlant said.

ETSU will look to carry that confidence into Atlantic Sun play, as the Bucs host Florida Gulf Coast in their conference-opener Friday, March 14 at 10:00 a.m.
