Men’s Golf gears up for Seahawk Intercollegiate

WILMINGTON, N.C.  (March 15, 2014) – Coming off a fourth-place showing earlier this week at the General Hackler Championship, the ETSU men’s golf team returns to action this weekend as the Bucs play at the Seahawk Intercollegiate, which will be played at the Country Club of Landfall.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE BUCS

The Bucs finished fourth at the General Hackler Championship on Tuesday after posting a three-round score of 896 (303-292-301). ETSU was 12 shots behind team champion MTSU.

Junior Rhys Pugh (Pontypridd, Wales), who held the lead after the second round, placed fourth at 2-over-par 218 (73-70-75) and was two shots shy from claiming the individual title.

Sophomore Chris Hickman (Centreville, Md.) also finished in the top-15 after tying for 14th at 7-over 223 (77-73-73).

ABOUT THE TOURNAMENT

The teams will play 36 holes on Sunday and the final 18 on Monday from the Nicklaus – Pines & Ocean Course, which is a par-72, 6,761-yard layout.

Sunday’s opening round begins with a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m.

This year marks the fifth time UNC Wilmington has hosted the tournament and the Seahawks have won the 2011 and 2013 team titles.

TOURNAMENT FIELD

Joining ETSU and UNC Wilmington’s in this year’s field is: Army, Campbell, Davidson, Delaware, Elon, East Carolina, Louisville, Navy, Ohio State, South Carolina and Wisconsin.

Four teams in the field are currently ranked in the top-70 of the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings – South Carolina (No. 25), Louisville (No. 52), ETSU (No. 58), and Ohio State (No. 69).

ETSU’S LINEUP

Joining Pugh and Hickman in ETSU’s lineup are Gudmundur Kristjansson (Reykjavik, Iceland), Mateusz Gradecki (Oborniki Śląskie, Poland) and Adrian Meronk (Wroclaw, Poland).

Junior Tom Heggarty (Cheshire, England) will compete as an individual.

The Bucs will be paired with Davidson and Louisville.
