Tyler Stepp, both men’s and women’s teams named All-Academic

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (July 25, 2014) – Senior Tyler Stepp (Dandridge, Tenn.) as well as both the men’s and women’s track & field teams earned All-Academic honors, the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced this week.

Stepp -- an interdisciplinary studies major -- was selected as an individual All-Academic honoree after carrying a 3.60 cumulative grade point average (GPA), and for his participation in the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships earlier this summer where he earned Second-Team All-America honors by USTFCCCA.

Including the Scholar Athletes of the Year, a total of 496 men from 165 institutions earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors for their combined academic and athletic accomplishments.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards:

  • For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org
  • For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).

The ETSU track & field program achieved team honors as a result of the men recording a cumulative 3.14 GPA this year, while the women posted a 3.32 cumulative GPA.

A total of 208 women’s teams and 116 men’s teams earned the distinction by earning a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or higher.
