Volleyball wraps up preseason with Blue/Gold scrimmage

Tuesday, August 27, 2013

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Aug. 27, 2013) – After two weeks of practice and training, the ETSU volleyball team wrapped up the preseason with a Blue/Gold scrimmage Tuesday night inside Brooks Gym.

Prior to the scrimmage, fans met the players and coaches at a free cookout, and then were given an opportunity to see the reigning Atlantic Sun Conference champions in action for the first time in 2013.

“A lot of schools across the country are holding these types of events before the season starts, and I thought this was a great opportunity for us to give the fans a sneak peek of our 2013 team,” said Devine following the scrimmage. “This was a fun event and a win-win for everybody. Hopefully we can build on this in the years ahead and gain support as the season progresses.”

During the event, head coach Lindsey Devine talked about rules and game play, while also giving the fans opportunity to win prizes by answering trivia questions and participating in on-court activities.

As far as the season goes, the team has worked hard throughout the preseason and the Bucs are ready to build off their championship campaign from a year ago.

“We have talked as a group and this team knows they have the opportunity to do some great things again this year,” said Devine. “The team has done a tremendous job staying focused during the last two weeks and this is the strongest group I have had during my 11 years at ETSU. They are determined to work hard and have another successful season.”

The 2013 season opens Friday afternoon when ETSU takes on Southern Conference foe UNC Greensboro in the Deacon Classic. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.
