Devine Named Candidate for Senior CLASS Award

Wednesday, August 28, 2013

OVELRAND PARK, Kan. (Aug. 27, 2013) – A week after being named Atlantic Sun Preseason Player of the Year, ETSU outside hitter Megan Devine (Kingsport, Tenn.) was named one of 30 candidates for the Senior CLASS Award in collegiate volleyball.

The Senior CLASS Award is one of the most prestigious awards in collegiate athletics. To be eligible for the accolade student-athletes must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition.

Devine excels in all four of those areas as the Kingsport, Tenn. native has registered a 3.664 GPA while majoring in Physical Education. The reigning Atlantic Sun Player of the Year has also devoted her time giving back to the community as Devine has spent time helping out at Dawn of Hope, Mentors in School, Special Olympics, Little Bucs, and with the Kingsport Volleyball Club. Since playing for the Bucs, Devine has been very dependable and shown great courage as she has played in all but one of the 102 total games in her career, while she has played in 100 consecutive matches dating back to the 2010 season.

Of the 30 candidates, 10 have grade point averages of 3.5 or higher and 19 are American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Americans.

The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2013 NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Championship in December.

The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School ®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
