ETSU Tennis prepares for second weekend of fall season

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 20, 2013) – After enjoying successful opening weekends to the fall season, the ETSU men’s and women’s tennis teams will look to carry that momentum into this weekend. The men’s squad will take part in the UVa Ranked Plus One Invitational in Charlottesville, Va., while the women’s team will compete in the USC Upstate Fall Classic in Spartanburg, S.C.
Both tournaments will begin Friday, Sept. 20 and end Sunday, Sept. 22.
Last weekend, the Buccaneers had a stellar showing at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships in Athens, Ga.
Several ETSU players picked up notable wins, including Rogerio Ribeiro, who knocked off fourth-ranked Ryan Lipman of Vanderbilt in the Division I singles flight.
Ribeiro also teamed with Diego Nunez to advance to the Division I doubles flight semifinals. David Biosca and Roger Ordeig also advanced to the semifinals.
The ETSU women’s tennis enjoyed dominant performances throughout the Elon Fall Invitational, sweeping each flight it participated in.
Lyn Yee Choo did not drop a set en route to winning the A-1 singles and A-3 doubles flights. Choo paired with Salma Dahbi to win the doubles flight.
Senior Giulia Andreazza knocked off William & Mary’s Sydney Smith in the finals of the A-3 singles flight to cap her stellar weekend. Andreazza also teamed with Sofia Espana to capture the B-1 doublese flight.
Individually, Dahbi and Espana each thrived in the B-1 singles flight, eventually meeting in the final round and opting to share the title.
