Sunday, September 22, 2013

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Sept. 22, 2013) – For the second consecutive weekend, the ETSU women’s tennis team captured a tournament championship. The Buccaneers enjoyed impressive individual and team performances en route to winning the USC Upstate Fall Classic Sunday.

“It’s great to be undefeated in the first two fall tournaments of the year,” head coach Travis Sandlant said.

Lyn Yee Choo (Kuching, Malaysia) won the A singles flight for the second time in as many years, knocking off teammate Anna Gerbasi (Caracas, Venezuela) in the finals (6-1, 6-1).

Salma Dahbi (Marrakech, Morocco) and Jessica Brumit (Elizabethton, Tenn.) each advanced to the final round of the B singles flight. The two will play one another for the title at ETSU Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 3:00 p.m.

Dahbi and Brumit teamed up to advance to the finals of the A doubles flight. The duo will play teammates Choo and Gerbasi at ETSU Tuesday.

“We should have some good confidence going into the next few weeks, which are going to be very tough tournaments,” Sandlant said. “We are looking forward to the challenge.”

ETSU will participate in the Wake Forest Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C., next weekend.
