ETSU is one of three schools to have at least 200 student-athletes placed on honor roll

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (July 5, 2016) – The Southern Conference released its honor roll for the 2015-16 academic year on Tuesday with 202 ETSU student-athletes being honored. ETSU is one of three schools to have at least 200 student-athletes honored.

Football led the way with 34 on the honor roll, followed by baseball with 26 and women’s soccer with 22. ETSU had 11 student-athletes compile a perfect 4.0 grade point average during the 2015-16 academic year, three of which came from women’s soccer.

Of the 202 ETSU student-athletes, 44 earned the SoCon Commissioner’s medal which is awarded to student-athletes who attain a GPA of 3.8 or higher throughout the year. That standard is up from 3.5 in previous years.

Nearly 2,000 student-athletes made the list with 398 earning the commissioner’s medal and a league-record 146 boasting a perfect 4.0 GPA.

The academic honor roll originated in 1988-89, when SoCon athletic directors established the award as a way to recognize the league’s outstanding student-athletes. The academic honor roll consists of student-athletes who participated in varsity sports and posted a 3.0 GPA or higher and were eligible the entire academic year and were members of the final squad lists.
