CHARLESTON, S.C. (May 11, 2005) - The Southern Conference announced the 2005 Softball All-Conference teams tonight at the Conference Championship Awards Banquet held at Alahambra Hall Charleston, S.C. where two Lady Bucs garnered All-Conference accolades and Janine Sprague (Hillsborough, N.C.) was honored as the 2005 Southern Conference Player of the Year. Sprague continued her outstanding collegiate career during the 2005 regular season. Batting .352, a team and league second-best heading into tournament play, Sprague also ranked among the nation's elite with 0.13 triples per contest, 11th in the nation, and a total of six for the year. Her 58 total hits and 81 total bases, which included six doubles and two homeruns, led the Lady Bucs during the regular season in 2005. A junior member of the 2005 squad, Sprague will be back in 2006 for her senior year with the Lady Bucs.
"I'm very honored to be named Player of the Year, but the award is a reflection of the hard work and effort that the entire team has put forth this season," Sprague said.
Jenkins finished the 2005 regular season with an overall 14-14 record, including a 5-4 slate in SoCon play. Her 92 strikeouts in 152.1 innings pitched were near career numbers, while her 24 complete games thus far in 2005 are a career-best. Jenkins recorded a season-best seven strikeouts versus
"We are extremely proud of both Janine and Courtney for their All-Conference recognition. Both are great competitors and have played very important roles on our team this season," Lady Bucs head coach Amy Fuller said.
