JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (May 3, 2009) - After wrapping up the regular season on Friday evening, the ETSU softball team has now turned its attention to postseason play, as the Lady Bucs look to capture their first-ever conference championship beginning Thursday, May 7 in DeLand, Fla.
The No. 5-seed Lady Bucs will take on No. 2-seed Lipscomb in their first game of the double-elimination tournament on Thursday morning. Game time is set for 11 a.m. at Stetson's Patricia Wilson Field.
The winner of the ETSU/Lipscomb matchup will then take on the winner of Mercer/Jacksonville at 6 p.m. on Thursday. On the flip side, the loser of ETSU/Lipscomb will face the loser of Campbell/ Stetson at 4 p.m.
ETSU (27-26) was swept by the Lady Bisons this season in Johnson City, but since joining the A-Sun the Lady Bucs have won six of the nine games in the series. Lipscomb swept Belmont on Saturday night to earn the tournament's second seed and completed the regular season with a mark of 37-12.
The Lady Bucs look to be the second straight No. 5-seed to win the conference tournament, as Campbell became the first fifth seed to accomplish the feat a year ago. This marks the second time ETSU will be the No. 5-seed - and when the Lady Bucs were fifth seed in 2006 - they fell one game short of the championship.
Fans making the trip to Stetson can purchase tickets through Stetson's ticket office by calling (386) 822-8100. Ticket prices for each session are $12 for a reserve seat and $10 for general admission. The tournament consists of four sessions with games 1-3 (first three games on Thursday) making up section I and games 3-6 (last three games on Thursday) making up section II. Both session III and IV tickets will be good for the entire day on Friday, May 8 and Saturday, May 9. Fans can also bring their own chairs if they purchase general admission tickets, while limited bleacher seats and picnic tables will be available as well.
