JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 17, 2011) - After having an MRI on her left knee earlier in the week, freshman Destiny Mitchell (Bluffton, Ga.) learned she will miss the rest of the season after suffering a dislocated kneecap last Saturday against the North Florida Ospreys.
Mitchell was averaging 15.1 points, 9.3 rebounds and 2.2 steals in 31.7 minutes of play prior to the injury. The talented guard/forward started 24 games and was shooting 52 percent from the field for the Lady Bucs.
"It's never good to have anyone go down with a season-ending injury, especially this late in the season," said head coach Karen Kemp. "Destiny was our top rebounder, second leading scorer and one of our best defenders, so this is a big loss for our team. Fortunately we have seen people step up in her absence with Natalie scoring 24 against UNF and Shawn having 21 points versus Jacksonville, so we need that to continue if we want to make another championship run."
Mitchell will have surgery to repair the knee in the upcoming weeks and there has been no timetable set on her return.
The Lady Bucs a gearing up for a trip to the Music City this weekend as ETSU takes on Lipscomb Saturday and Belmont Monday.
