Bucs' Jacksonville series moved to April 19-20

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 16, 2014) - Senior Jackie Baird (Ooltewah, Tenn.) belted her team-best 14th and 15th home runs of the season Wednesday as the Bucs knocked off Southern Conference opponent Furman, 5-0, in Game Two of a non-conference double-header.

Baird gave the Bucs (17-26) an early 2-0 lead with a two-run homer to left center in the first inning. The Ooltewah, Tenn., native added a solo home run in the fourth. Baird, who went 3-for-3 at the plate, had a hand in each of ETSU's five runs, driving in three and scoring two more.

Taylor Carter (Brazil, Ind.) pitched her 12th complete game of the season, striking out two while holding the Paladins (25-20) to no runs on just five hits. Carter currently leads the nation in fewest walks per seven innings (0.61).

Fellow senior Katie Wolff (La Grange, Texas) drove in Brooke Baxter (Jasper, Tenn.) in the fifth inning to add an insurance run. Nicole Fox (Peachtree City, Ga.) also scored on the play due to a throwing error by the left fielder.

Wolff is in the midst of a team-best six-game hit streak. Over her last six games, the La Grange, Texas, native has gone 9-of-20 at the plate. She currently leads the Bucs with a .374 batting average.

In the opening game of Wednesday's double-header, the Paladins outhit the Bucs, 11-10, en route to a 7-3 victory.

ETSU will resume conference this weekend as it visits Jacksonville for a three-game series. The Bucs will take on Jacksonville twice Saturday, April 19 and once Sunday, April 20.

Saturday's games will begin at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m, while Sunday's contest will begin at noon.
