MACON, Ga. (May 1, 2006) - For the second time in as many weeks, a member of the ETSU softball team has claimed Atlantic Sun Player of the Week honors, with junior Stephanie Gaynord (Manassas, Va.) picking up her first conference accolades of the season on Monday. Gaynord helped the Lady Bucs to a 3-1 week, hitting .500 for the week, including a trio of homeruns.
The junior shortstop went 7-for-14 over four games, with five runs batted in and five runs scored. Presently on a five-game hit streak, Gaynord recorded base knocks in each of the week's four games, including two-hit efforts in three contests. In the field, Gaynord committed only one error for the week, while posting seven putouts and 18 assists.
Gaynord currently leads the team in batting average (.304), runs scored (40), hits (49), doubles (12), and homeruns (8).
The Lady Bucs are currently amid a late-season hot streak, winning five of its last six, including A-Sun sweeps over Stetson and Belmont. Sophomore Amanda Haverman (Kirkwood, Mo.) garnered A-Sun Player of the Week honors on April 24, after playing a starring role in the Lady Bucs' upset of the league-leading Hatters.
ETSU, which is still in the running for a spot in the A-Sun Tournament, plays its final series of the season on Friday, traveling to Lipscomb for a two-game tilt. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m. CST in Nashville, Tenn.
